(INFO) The Schikaneder in Wieden is one of Vienna's oldest continuously operating cinemas, in existence since 1911 (some sources say 1906). Sound film was introduced in 1930. Under Nazi rule it was taken from its Jewish licence holder Hugo Klein and 'Aryanized' in 1938. Today it runs as an arthouse cinema with a bar and stage.

In its early years (1911–1919) Amalie Welleann co-managed the cinema — making the Schikaneder the first cinema in the Habsburg monarchy co-run by a woman.
