(INFO) The Urania cinema was created in 1910 inside the newly opened Wiener Urania adult-education house, an Art Nouveau building by Max Fabiani. It showed ambitious cultural and travel films early on and was among the best-known cinemas of the inner city in the 1930s. Renovated and reopened in 2003, it is active to this day and serves as a central Viennale venue.
The Urania hosted one of Austria's first sound-film screenings — Walter Ruttmann's 'Melody of the World' played here in 1929.
